Another polio case found in Peshawar

PESHAWAR, Oct 10: Another polio case has been found in Peshawar district.

Five-month-old Hamzullah Khan was tested positive for polio at the National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad. The child had got P3 virus.

Health officials said the child should have been vaccinated against polio at the time of his birth.

Meanwhile, health officials have expressed disappointment over the postponement of the upcoming polio campaign in Swat by the district coordination officer.

The three-day nationwide campaign is scheduled to start from Oct 13. The campaign would have covered over 350,000 children in the violence-hit Swat which has so far reported three cases of the disease this year.

A large number of these children remained inaccessible during previous anti-polio campaigns.

The figure also includes about 100,000 children who either missed or their parents refused to get their children administered the anti-polio drops on various grounds. Besides, about 35,000 children remained unvaccinated for over two years in Kabal and Matta because the district administration was not ready to support the campaign.
