KARACHI: Cop’s honesty

Published October 10, 2008

KARACHI, Oct 9: A constable contributed his bit to the image-building of the police department when he deposited a wallet, containing foreign currency equivalent to about Rs300,000, with the police station concerned after finding it lying somewhere at the airport.

Airport DSP Haseeb Baig told Dawn that the constable, Nizar Khattak, posted at the airport, had found the wallet belonging to a passenger, Azizullah. Besides UAE Dirham equivalent to around Rs300,000, the wallet contained some credit cards. He said Khattak informed the SHO of the Airport police station and deposited the wallet with him.

“I returned to Karachi by a PIA flight on Wednesday night and while buying a calling card, I may have dropped my wallet. Unaware of the fact, I drove to Hyderabad where I had to attend the funeral of my brother,” Azizullah told Dawn, adding that he received a call from the Airport police the following morning to inform him about the recovery of the wallet.

Constable Khattak, 40, has four children and earns a salary of around Rs10,000 per month.
