RAWALPINDI, Aug 8: An anti-terrorism court here on Friday extended the judicial remand of 12 suspected terrorists for eight days after the Sadiqabad police sought more time to conduct an identification parade of the accused in the jail.

ATC-II Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot directed the investigating officer to complete the investigations and submit the charge sheet against the accused. Intikhab Abbasi, Abid Khan, Mohammad Ishaq, Mohammad Kabir, Qamaruz Zaman, Zafar Ali, Mohammad Zameer, Mohammad Tauqir, Mohammad Sajjad, Abdul Sattar, Farhan Mehmood and Rashid Mehmood were arrested on June 1 from Sadiqabad.

Three vehicles laden with over 1,000 kg explosives were also seized from their possession, according to security agencies.

Meanwhile, Civil Judge Tahir Khan Niazi suspended the city district government’s orders to seal a wagon terminal near High Court building on Sawan Road after the District Regional Transport Authority (DRTA) failed to submit its reply. The hearing was put off till August 11.

Instead of secretary DRTA, his deputy appeared in the court without the relevant record and did not return to the court after the judge asked him to come to the court later in the day with the record.

Raja Shaiq Ahmad, the attorney of the petitioner Abid, told Dawn that the DRTA had stopped his client from using the faculty without serving a show-cause notice.

The petitioner maintained that he had fulfilled all legal requirements and the DRTA had no reason to seal the terminal as he also owned the land.
