OKARA, Aug 7: Food poisoning killed two women and sent at least 25 people, including eight children, to hospitals in Dhari Nooriky village, about 30 kilometres from here, late on Wednesday night.

A number of people had gathered at a ceremony in connection with the death of a relative. The meal they were served at the ceremony played havoc with their health. As a result, two women Salan and Nooran died in Kaku village, while many others were hospitalised.

DHQ hospital’s medical specialist Dr Tariq Hameed said 16 people were being treated at the emergency ward. He said another woman was in a critical condition.

Muhammad Nawaz, whose family members were also among victims of food poisoning, said eight children had been admitted to a private clinic. He said some people were also being treated at dispensaries.
