BUNER, Aug 5: An assistant sub-inspector of police was killed and three constables were injured when their vehicle came under fire near Jowkhela chowk here on Monday night.

According to sources, the police party was on a routine patrol when it was attacked.

ASI Said Mohammad was killed on the spot.

The constables, Mohammad Zamir, Nowsherwan and Azizullah, were taken to the district headquarter hospital in Daggar. They were later taken to Peshawar when their condition deteriorated.

After the firing, police cordoned off the area and erected barricades on roads.

District police chief Mohammad Khaliq Khan and district coordination officer Akbar Khan said that the assailants would be arrested soon. There was no clue to the identity of the gunmen.

The slain ASI was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Shalbandi Sharif on Tuesday. His funeral was attended by DPO, DSPs, political leaders and a large number of local people.
