KARACHI, Aug 5: The additional district and sessions judge, west, Ahmed Saba, on Tuesday indicted a man and his wife for killing a couple on Nov 21 in the Surjani Town police limits.
Kashif Ali Khan, a bank manager, and his wife, Mehwish, were found shot dead in their house in Taisar Town on Nov 21, 2007. The couple had married 10 months back. A suicide note saying, “We are killing ourselves on our own,” and a TT pistol were also found at the scene.
Accused Asadullah and his wife, Rashida, pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case. The judge summoned all prosecution witnesses to appear before the court on next date of hearing (Aug 22).
The investigation officer said in the charge-sheet that Asadullah and his wife Rashida had recorded their confessional statements during the interrogation, admitting to having killed the couple. An unlicensed TT pistol was also seized from Asadullah while the involvement of Kaleem and Shakila had not been confirmed, it added.
According to the confessional statement of the accused, Kashif and Asadullah became friends when the latter was posted as a security guard at the bank. Kashif had helped Asadullah in his marriage around 15 months ago in his hometown Multan, but his wife was too young at the time of their marriage and the couple had decided not to have a baby for some time. A few months later the suspect came to know that his wife was pregnant. When he asked her about it, she said she had once gone to Kashif’s home to see his wife, Mehwish, who was not at home then. She said Kashif, taking advantage of the situation, raped her, added the statement.
It further stated that Asadullah had promised her to take her revenge. For this purpose, Asadullah along with his wife Rashida, sister-in-law Shakila and younger brother Kaleem reached the victims’ house on Nov 21. They made the couple drink milk laced with heavy tranquillizers. The suspect first shot dead Kashif and then Mehwish.
They later tried to make the double murder look as a suicide by placing a suicide note on the body of Kashif, it added.
However, the court on Jan 9 had discharged Kaleem and Shakila in the case since their counsel had moved an application to the court and pleaded for the acquittal of both suspects as the prosecution had failed to prove their involvement in the murders.
The Surjani Town police had registered a murder case (FIR No 384/07) under Section 302/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state when the relatives of the deceased refused to lodge a case.
NBWs for witnesses
The additional district and sessions judge II (Central), Nelofer Shahnawaz, on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of four private witnesses in a double murder case.
The judge issued arrest warrants for Sakeena Bibi, daughter of the accused, Naseer Ahmed, Mohammad Altaf, and Mohammad Younus for not appearing before the court despite repeated remainders and directed the police authorities to arrest them and produce them in court on Aug 20.
According to the prosecution, 70-year-old Abdul Latif had allegedly stabbed the brother and uncle of his son-in-law, Mushtaq Ahmed, in the Khwaja Ajmer Nagri police station limits on Sept 27, 2000.
The injured Waris Hussain and Farman Ali could not survive though they were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
The accused was booked under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code in the case (FIR No 177/2000) at the K. A. Nargi police station.
17th notice to IO
The civil judge and judicial magistrate, central, Sohail Ahmed, on Tuesday issued the 17th show-cause notice to the investigation officer directing him to submit a charge-sheet by Aug 12 in a case registered against three policemen who had allegedly opened fire on two motorcyclists.
Police constables Mohammad Imran, Arif Hussain and Salman Farsi had allegedly opened fire on Zubair Khan and Mohammad Saqib on March 21 near Shakhi Hassan, North Nazimabad. Both youngsters were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, but Zubair succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation officer has failed to comply with the earlier 16 show-cause notices issued to him directly as well as through his superiors (the DIG and SSP investigation) in the past four months while the police high-ups have also remained unsuccessful in making him submit a charge-sheet.
A case (FIR 164/08) was registered under Sections 302, 324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on a complaint at the Taimuria police station against the policemen.
