GUJRANWALA, July 31: A kidnapper was killed in an encounter with the police at Noshehra Road while a kidnapped minor boy was recovered safely here on Thursday.

Report said that Muhammad Ahmad was playing outside his house when two men kidnapped him. Later, they contacted his father Saleem on phone and demanded Rs100,000 for the release of his son. The kidnappers also threatened to kill his son if he informed the police. However, Saleem reported the matter to police and reached the designated spot to hand over the ransom amount to kidnappers. After taking the custody of his son, he gave the cash to kidnappers.

The Baghbanpura police, who had already cordoned off the area, ordered the accused to surrender, but they opened fire on law enforcers. Police also returned the fire and killed one of the kidnappers while his accomplice managed to escape. Police recovered the ransom amount and a pistol from nearby the criminal’s body.

Police claimed that the deceased accused, identified as Asghar of Noshehra Road, was killed in firing by his own accomplice.

DIG Zulfikar Ahmad Cheema announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for the raiding team.

KILLED: One person was killed and four other family members sustained injuries when a passenger train hit a car on Attawa railway crossing near Aimanabad on Thursday.

Reports said that Jaffar Express (139 up), heading towards Rawalpindi from Quetta, smashed into the car, killing Ghulam Nabi on the spot while four others received injuries. They were rushed to the local THQ Hospital in serious condition.

RAPED: A case was registered on Thursday against two youths for allegedly abducting and raping a mother of two children in Khiali Shahpur.

Reports said that a woman of Qila Sundar Singh was on her way to Khiali Shahpur when two car riders intercepted her near Tower Road and abducted her some two days ago. The culprits took her away to some unknown place where she was raped. On Thursday, the culprits, identified as Shaukat Ali and Inayatullah, fled after throwing the victim on a road.

Police were conducting raids for the arrest of both accused.
