QUETTA, July 29: Mohammad Anwar Baloch of Turbat has appealed to human rights organisations to raise voice against detention of his brother Iqbal Baloch for more than 15 months.

Addressing a news conference along with members of his family at the press club here on Tuesday, Mr Baloch claimed that Frontier Corps personnel arrested Iqbal, a student, and his friends Nawaz Baloch, Zahid Baloch and Jasim Baloch in Turbat on March 14 last year.

He said that Iqbal’s friends were freed on Feb 17 this year in Quetta, but his brother was still under detention.

The family brought the issue to the notice of the chief minister on May 5 and he pledged to get Iqbal released. However, two and half months have passed but Iqbal continue to be in detention.

He said a petition was filed in the Balochistan High Court but although several dates were fixed, the detainee was neither produced nor the defendants appeared before the court.
