LAHORE, June 23: Two alleged robbers gunned down a police constable in Factory Area when he was on his way home after performance of duty on Monday.

Police suspected the robbers shot dead the constable on offering resistance during street crime.

The victim, Muhammad Irfan, deployed outside the Model Town residence of PML-N patron Mian Nawaz Sharif, was on way back to his home along with his brother Imran in plainclothes, also a police constable, after discharging his duty.

When they alighted from the bus and were passing along Madina Colony, two motorcyclists intercepted them.

Irfan offered resistance as a result of which one of the robbers fired at him from point-blank range. He died on way to the Lahore General Hospital.

According to the victim’s brother, the family had no enmity.

Police shifted the body for autopsy and registered a case against unknown killers with no arrest so far.

ROBBERIES: Two robbers barged into the cell phone outlet of Muhammad Attique in limits of Shalimar police and took away Rs15,000, nine cell phones and calling cards.

Two robbers entered the shop of Riaz in Garhi Shaho and escaped after looting cash and valuables worth Rs150,000.

Three robbers stormed into the house of Sheikh Anees in Cavalry Ground in North Cantonment police precincts and took away cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs250,000.

Four robbers burst into the house of Ashiq in B-Block in Model Town area and took away cash, jewellery and other valuables worth Rs400,000.

A masked robber entered the house of Zulfikar in Baghbanpura police precincts, looted Rs5,000 and jewellery from his wife and escaped.

Muhammad Yaseen and his wife were returning in their car after purchasing medicine from Abdul Kareem Road when two robbers stopped them at gunpoint and made off with cash, jewellery and their car worth Rs350,000.
