KARACHI, June 19: Women police arrested two women for stealing a cellphone from a woman in a passenger coach.

Sub-inspector Shagufta of the Women Police Station told Dawn that a gang of five women stole the cellphone of a woman, Kuasur Perveen, in Ilyas Coach.

She said the victim sensed the missing of her phone and raised an alarm. “The robber women got down the bus near Shaheen Complex and then they boarded a Muslim Coach,” she added.

The SI said the victim woman, however, followed them and a police party intercepted the Muslim Coach on I. I. Chundrigarh Road. “Two women were arrested and their three accomplices fled the scene,” she said.

The suspects were identified as Abida and Perveen, both from Sargodha.

The police woman said the two suspects were earlier arrested by the Preedy police for stealing mobile phones.

The SI said the gang was involved in several cellphone thefts in passenger buses and coaches across the city.
