TAXILA, June 18: The Wah Cantonment police claimed to have busted a seven-member gang of abductors and got released a lawyer kidnapped for Rs10 million ransom here on Wednesday.

Talking to media persons, subdivisional police officer Shahbaz Hussain said that Zaighoon Arshad was abducted from a cement factory in the jurisdiction of the Wah Cantonment police on June 4. Later, the abductors demanded Rs10 million for his release.

On Wednesday, the culprits demanded the first instalment of the ransom from the brother of the kidnap victim. By tracing the telephone calls, a police team headed by DSP Shahbaz raided a house in People’s Colony and arrested the seven criminals including two women. The abducted lawyer was also released unhurt.

The arrested accused have been identified as Javed, Jamroz Khan, Mutawali Khan, Israr, Ihsanullah, Shamshad Begum and Ulfat Bibi.

Sophisticated weapons and a car used in the crime were also recovered. The police said the gang belonged to various parts of NWFP.
