FAISALABAD, June 15: Around 25 people led by the Samundari town nazim on Saturday raided and later ransacked the office of town municipal officer (TMO) who assumed the office allegedly against the ‘aspirations’ of the nazim. The nazim and his accomplices, who also thrashed the TMO, were later arrested by the police and sent to jail.

Samundari Town Nazim Shah Nawaz wanted seeing one Ijaz Butt as TMO but the Punjab government appointed Muhammad Nawaz instead. According to sources, the nazim resisted the move and obstructed TMO Nawaz from assuming the charge of his office.

When the TMO assumed his office on Saturday, he was allegedly subjected to torture by armed men in the presence of the nazim. The hoodlums also ransacked the TMO’s office.

Soon after the incident, a police party rushed to the scene, arrested the nazim and his accomplices and registered a case against them under Sections 148/149/186/440/506 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Sadar Town Police Office Mian Zulfiqar said that the police produced the accused before a magistrate, who sent them to jail on judicial remand.
