SANGHAR, June 14: A teenager was killed and 16 other people were injured when a home-made device exploded in a shop in the Ghas Mandi area of Tando Adam on Saturday.

Mohammad Ameen, the shop owner and one of the injured, told reporters that two bearded men had visited his shop. The blast occurred when the two men left the place, he said.

Local people gathered at the shop after the incident and took the injured to a hospital. The condition of the seven victims, who were shifted to the Liaquat University Hospital, was stated to be serious.

Thirteen-year-old Siraj died on the operation table.

Some of the injured were being treated at the taluka hospital and others at the Memon Hospital.

Inspector Fakhar Alam of the Bomb Disposal Squad told reporters that the blast might have been caused by a home-made device.

He said the exact nature of the substance used in the making of the bomb and its weight would be ascertained after forensic examination.

The shops in the area were closed after the incident.
