HYDERABAD, June 13: Jhakri police of Matiari district recovered two bodies, including that of a woman killed for karo-kari by her brothers who had also murdered the man their sister had been living with. The man was also wanted by police in a number of criminal cases.

Police said Mumtaz Shar of Matiari was living with Sadiq Khoso on whose land she and her husband Akbar alias Atal worked for a decade.

Police said neither she was divorced by her husband nor were there any documentary evidence to suggest she had a legitimate relationship with Sadiq Khoso wanted by Salaro police.

Jhakri SHO Ali Asghar Shah told Dawn that even Sadiq’s brother had lodged a case against him following a dispute, while he himself was trying to catch Sadiq involved in a number of criminal cases.

He said relatives of Mumtaz persuaded Sadiq to return her but he did not agree. She had two children from her husband and four from Sadiq Khoso. According to the SHO, the woman’s brothers and cousins were in regular contact with the lady and the man. On June 1, they invited the couple with their children at a dinner and first killed Sadiq and buried his body in Peero Dhand area within the jurisdiction of Jhakri police station.

Jhakri police led by sub inspector Hussain Bux Rajar recovered the body and arrested three accused Mehal, brother of Mumtaz, Iqbal and Deedar - both cousins. An accused Allah Dino was still absconding.

The accused disclosed that they had also killed Mumtaz and disposed of her body in the forest near Makan Sharif in the area of police post of Sheikh Bhirkio – Tando Mohammad Khan district.
