KHAIRPUR, June 10: The civil judge and judicial magistrate-II raided the Gambat police station on Tuesday and found 22 people illegally detained in the lockup.

The judge took action on the directives of district and sessions judge of Khairpur. He sealed the entry register and directed the SHO to produce all the detainees before the district and sessions judge of Khairpur on Wednesday.

The detainees included Imam Din, Ghulam Ali, Noor Ahmed, Bilawal, Mohammad Awais, Qalandar Bux, Ghulam Haider, Ali Hassan, Ali Nawaz, Mohammad Siddique, Ghulam Rasool Solangi, Khan Mohammad, Gul Mohammad, Asad and others.

SHO Abdul Manan Larik claimed that the detainees were wanted to police in many cases.

Raids: Police raided several villages on Tuesday to arrest the accused who were involved in holding a jirga, which had given a 10-year-old girl in marriage to an aged man, Haider Bux Siyal.

Haider Bux had some time ago divorced his wife after declaring her as kari and publicly accusing one Ali Hassan Siyal of having illicit relations with her.

The jirga held on June 2 in Dhani Bux Siyal village looked into the karo-kari charges and decided to give 10-year-old Hanifa, daughter of Ranjhan Siyal, brother of Ali Hassan Siyal, in marriage to Haider Bux because Ali Hassan had no daughter.

Khairpur DPO Ghulam Nabi Memon took notice of the jirga and directed area police to take action against those involved in holding the illegal jirga and lodge an FIR against them.

Ranjhan Siyal, Hanifa’s father, lodged an FIR on Monday evening at Mangi Mari police under section 310-A PPC against eight men, including Liaquat Ali, Gadda Hussain, Haider Bux, Qalandar Bux, Ali Gul and three others, accusing them of holding the jirga.
