FAISALABAD, June 7: Three people -- a man, his son and a robber -- were killed and a girl injured in a shootout between locals and robbers in Khurrianwala on Friday night.

Four robbers entered the house of Yousaf in Chak 100-RB, took the family at gunpoint and started collecting valuables. When Yousaf’s son Abdul Jabbar resisted, the robbers opened fire, injuring him critically. Yousaf also resorted to firing and he and his daughter, Shahnaz, and a robber were injured in the ensuing shootout.

Yousaf died on the spot, while Jabbar succumbed to his wounds on way to hospital. Shahnaz was stated to be in critical condition at Allied Hospital.

The fleeing robbers took their injured accomplice, later identified as Rizwan of Chak 102-GB, along with them. However, they abandoned him near Chak-102 in critical condition. Some locals took him to Jaranwala THQ Hospital, but to no avail.

Locals claimed that the area police did not rush to the scene as most of the policemen were enjoying a circus show when the shootout took place. However, the police refuted the allegation, and said they rushed to the scene soon after they were informed.

No arrest has been made in this connection so far.
