TIMERGARA, June 7: Un-identified militants blew up a portion of a girls’ high school building with a bomb in Barkalay area on Saturday morning. No casualties were reported in the blast.

Police and local officials said that two bombs had been planted near the science room and the laboratory of the school.

One of the planted bombs exploded, blowing up tin-sheet roofs of two rooms and a veranda. Police said the other bomb was defused by a bomb disposal squad, adding that a case had been registered against unknown militants.

Sources said the watchman of the school was not present when the bomb exploded.

The local administration closed the school after the incident.

Meanwhile, the local people have condemned the rising extremism and militancy in the area and called upon law-enforcement agencies to provide security to girls’ schools in the area.

They assured of their full support and cooperation to law-enforcement agencies to root out militancy from the area.

SHOPS GUTTED: Three shops were gutted after a fire broke out in the Timergara bazaar on Friday night.

Witnesses said that the fire engulfed the three shops in no time and destroyed goods worth thousands of rupees. The cause of the fire was stated to be a short circuit.
