MARDAN, June 2: A girls’ school and a CD shop were blown up in Mardan by militants before dawn on Monday.

A bomb planted near the main gate of the Government Girls High School of Kharki Baizai, some 45 kilometres from here, blew up the main gate and a portion of the building.

The explosion also damaged an adjoining hospital building. It was a first attack on a girls’ school in Mardan.

Another bomb destroyed the CD shop in the Iranabad area.

A similar blast in Chato Chowk Hoti four days ago had destroyed two CD shops.

In another incident, armed men robbed Rs237,000 from the cashier of the agriculture department had drawn from a bank for payment of employees’ salary.

Police said the cashier was gone to his office when he was waylaid on the Canal Road.
