QUETTA, May 30: At least six youths were shot dead and four others were injured in an ambush on Samungli Road on Friday.

A spokesman for the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack.

A large number of people belonging to the Hazara tribe gathered at the Civil Hospital and ransacked the reception area of the casualty department in protest against absence of doctors and medical staff.

Another mob blocked the Jinnah Road and pelted vehicles with stones.

All shops and business establishments in the area were closed.According to police, the youths were going home after playing a cricket match in Jinnah Town when the assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on them near the FIA office.

Three boys died on the spot, two in the Civil Hospital and one in the CMH.

Those killed in the attack are: Jahangir, Amir Hussain, Jawad Ali, Ali Sohail, Zahid and Niamatullah. The injured are Shahid, Ahmed, Hameed and Noorullah.

Pakistan People’s Party’s MNA Syed Nasir Ali and MPA Jan Ali Changezi went to the Civil Hospital and assure the protesters that the killers would be brought to justice.

The local administration has deployed additional contingents of police and Balochistan Constabulary at the hospital and in other areas of the city.

Police raided different places after the attack but no arrest was reported.

Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani condemned the killing and said that attacks on unarmed citizens would not be tolerated.

He was speaking after a visit to the Civil Hospital here on Friday night.

Nawab Raisani said that security patrolling would be increased and each affected family would receive Rs200,000 as compensation.

Meanwhile, Markazi Anjuman Tajran, Balochistan, has called for a shutter-down strike in Quetta on Saturday.

The city government on Friday announced that all educational institutional would remain closed on Saturday.
