LAHORE, May 17: Robbers killed a 55-year-old man at his house and took away cash and jewellery worth Rs350,000 in Harbanspura area on Saturday.

Police said Safdar Ali of Kotli Gasi was alone at his home as other members of the family had gone to attend a fair.

On their return, they found Safdar lying dead with a fatal head injury while cash and jewellery were missing from the house.

Police have registered a case under section 460 of the PPC and awaits autopsy report.

INJURED: Two cousins sustained burns in Gulberg area when they lit a cigarette and their room caught fire due to gas leakage.

The injured, hailing from Faisalabad, were identified as Amir and Kashif.

Firefighters rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.

Meanwhile, robbers shot at and injured two police constables at a picket and plundered cash and valuables from a close friend of a senior police officer during a robbery incident.

The police said a Manga Mandi team, led by an ASI, was on routine patrolling early on Saturday when they signalled six suspects near Manga village. Instead of stopping, the car occupants opened fire on the police as a result of which constables Khizar Hayat and Muhammad Nawaz suffered injuries. The outlaws made good their escape.

The injured were admitted to the Jinnah Hospital. The police registered a case against the criminals.

Two robbers stopped Khursheed Ahmad, a close friend of the DIG (investigation) of Lahore, on College Road (Township police precinct) and snatched cell phone from him and jewellery from his maternal aunt. They also opened fire on driver Mushtaq who resisted, but escaped unhurt.

Cash and cell phones were taken away also at Burki, Shalimar, Muslim Town, Islampura and Green Town.

STOLEN: Four cars were lifted from Garden Town, Islampura and Defence and two motorcycles were stolen from Islampura, six from Millat Park, Garden Town, Badami Bagh, Shahdara, South Cantonment and Hanjarwal.

DIES MYSTERIOUSLY: A father of two died in the hospital on Saturday shortly after he was found lying unconscious near his Mustafabad house.

Police said Amjad, 27, of District Okara was living along with his wife and two children in a rented house in Dharampura, Mustafabad.

The deceased’s wife told the police that Amjad had lunch at home and left the place in the evening. Later, some locals informed her that he was lying unconscious a few yards way from his residence.

He was rushed to the Services Hospital where he expired.
