Seven held for flour smuggling

GUJRANWALA, May 10: Seven more trucks laden with flour bags were seized while six of the drivers were arrested by a joint raiding team of the food department and police at Alam Chowk Bypass here on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off that the flour was being smuggled to tribal areas on trucks through the GT Road, a picket was set up at Alam Chowk Bypass. The raiding team intercepted the trucks and arrested drivers Fida Hussain and Zahid Hussain of Swat, Tahir Shah and Ijaz of Malakand, Bashir of Mitral and Yousuf of Bajaur agency. The police also arrested the flour mills owner and a case had been registered against the accused.

SHOT DEAD: A seminary driver was shot dead by his relatives for barring them from extorting protection money from his sister in Ghakkhar Town on Saturday.

Reports said that Haji Muhammad Asghar was on his way to Nat Kalan village to take students of Muaarif Islami seminary by a vehicle. Near Bagh Basti, accused Mehr Sohail and his three accomplices, riding on motorcycles, intercepted him and fired at him after exchanging hot words. He died on the spot. The body has been sent to the Wazirabad THQ hospital for autopsy.
