FAISALABAD, April 21: A number of the Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) students staged a demonstration against the police for not arresting ‘miscreants’ who allegedly tortured the head of the law department.

The protesters boycotted their classes and raised slogans, demanding arrest of the accused who inflicted torture on law department head Zille Atif a couple of days ago.

The protesting students took a round of the campus and dispersed peacefully.

About three days ago, the Gulberg police had registered a case against a few former students of the GCUF on the application of Zille Altaf in which he mentioned the names of the students who allegedly tortured him. However, no arrest has been made so far.

Meanwhile, the university faculty members also held a meeting in which they criticised torture of the law department head.

Addressing the meeting, GCUF registrar Dr Zahoor Ahmed said some `unscrupulous elements’ were trying to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the university. He said the administration would strictly deal with such elements.

Faculty of sciences dean Dr Shahid Mehbood, controller of examination Javeed Aslam, Urdu department head Dr Anwar, Dr Mudassar Butt and others also addressed the meeting and demanded arrest of the culprits.
