KARACHI: Two gunned down in city

KARACHI, April 21: Two people were killed on Monday in acts of violence in different parts of the city, witnesses and police said.

Jamshed Quarters police said a 34-year-old man was shot dead near Total Petrol Pump by two motorcyclists.

The victim, identified as Ayub, son of Faiz, was shifted to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hospital sources said the man was shot from a pointblank range as at least two bullets went through his upper torso.

The police said the victim, resident of Maula Madad Mohallah in Lyari, was a real estate agent. They said he was on his way back home after visiting his interned friend at the Central Prison.

The police quoted the victim’s family as saying that the man was not affiliated with any political party. The family suspected personal enmity behind the murder, they said.

Shot dead

A 35-year-old man was shot dead by two assailants on a motorcycle in Garden.

The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital where the victim was identified as Rashid Lateef.

The police said the incident took place near Shoe Market.

They said the police were still collecting details about the victim and the incident.

Ex-serviceman robbed

Gangs of bandits robbed two men in separate parts of the city.

Amjad Naushad, a retired major, reported to the Sharea Faisal police that three bandits intercepted him near Bank Al-Habib and deprived him of Rs1.64 million.

The police said the major, a resident of Malir Cantt, was on his way to the bank in his car when at around 9am a Suzuki pickup intercepted him in a service lane.

They said one of the occupants of the Suzuki, carrying a pistol, got down, held the retired army officer hostage at gunpoint, and snatched the envelop containing the money.
