GUJRAT, April 19: Dacoits shot dead an expatriate and injured his two brothers and the driver of his car during a robbery attempt near Mungowal Sharqi village early on Saturday.

Reports said Malik Naveed of Karianwala along with his brothers, Ishrat and Asad, was on his way to Lahore airport to leave for Greece by a taxi. Near Mungowal Sharqi, some armed men tried to stop the car, but driver Murid Husain accelerated the speed. The robbers opened fire, killing Naveed on the spot and injuring his brothers and the driver.

The injured were shifted to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital.

Karianwala police have started investigation.

The robbery incidents have alarmingly increased in the district, and the police have failed to find any clue to the four major such incidents during the last one month. Two banks, a foreign currency dealer of Gujrat city and the house of a businessman of Jalalpur Jattan were looted during a month.
