PESHAWAR, April 8: The city police claimed on Tuesday to have recovered 108kg hashish which was reportedly being smuggled from the tribal areas to Punjab.

A police spokesman said that a car was stopped in the limits of Hayatabad police station and during checking it was found packed with narcotics.

He said that 6kg opium was also recovered from the secret cavities of the vehicle. The car’s driver Ismail Khan, resident of Malikdin Khel Bara, was arrested and the vehicle was also impounded.

Meanwhile, the police also claimed to have recovered 131 stolen cottons of cigarettes at the GT Road near Tarnab Farm, but failed to arrest the accused.

In another development, the police also took two stolen vehicles including a truck into custody.

According to assistant director FIA Inamullah Khan Gandapur, the passengers identified as Jamal Muhammad Jafar and Shose Motte, had arrived at the Peshawar airport via an Emirates Airlines flight EK-636 from Dubai, and were deported through the same flight.
