SIALKOT, April 7: The police have arrested a proclaimed offender Shahid, alias Shahia, wanted in a kidnapping for ransom and murder case two years after the incident.

District Police Officer (DPO) Muhammad Amin told reporters on Monday that Shahid had kidnapped a trader, Bashir Khan, upon his return from Dubai around two years ago and later killed him when his family did not pay the ransom.

The DPO said the police had been pursuing the culprit since then and on a tip-off, they raided his hideout and arrested him.

The police have started investigation.

APPEAL: The family of a local man, who was killed by Turkish Border Security Forces while infiltrating Turkish borders illegally around three weeks ago, has sought action against human traffickers who lured Waheed Ahmad and scores of others with promises of sending them to European countries.

Talking to newsmen in Bhaagowal village here on Monday, family members appealed to the government to provide them justice. They also urged human rights organisations to highlight the firing of border security forces as violation of human rights.

Waheed, 35, was enticed by some Sialkot-based human traffickers and he paid them Rs700,000 for sending him to a European country. He was a father of five children and sole breadwinner in his family.
