Robber dies in ‘gunplay’

TOBA TEK SINGH, April 2: A dacoit was killed in an alleged encounter with police near Pacca Anna railway station on Wednesday.

Sadar SHO Rana Jamshed said that 10 dacoits had looted cash, cell phones, valuables and three motorcycles from several passersby on link roads of Gojra area during the last few days.

He said the same gang also deprived Asif Sattar Jat of Chak 91-JB of cash and a cell phone on Wednesday. He immediately informed the police check post at Dawakhri on Gojra-Faisalabad Road. As the police teams reached there and chased the fleeing bandits, they were fired upon. The police also returned the fire that left one of the dacoits dead. Later, the police succeeded in arresting rest of the nine culprits. The deceased dacoit was identified as Abdul Rehman of Chak 295-GB (Barianwala).

The SHO did not disclose names of the arrested dacoits, but he said seven of the accused were Christians and the rest were Muslims, all belonging to Jampur.

The SHO claimed that arms, looted money and snatched motorcycles were also recovered from them. — Corresondent
