KARACHI, March 28: A pedestrian was killed in the crossfire between fleeing bandits and a police constable deployed at the residence of the former prime minister, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Friday.

Police said that two armed men followed Mr Iqbal Shamsi from a money changer to his house in Block 13-D. As he was about to enter his house they held him at gunpoint and deprived him of cash and a cellphone.

As they were fleeing on their motorcycle, a police guard posted at the residence of Mr Jamali tried to engage them by opening fire. In the crossfire, a pedestrian identified as Maqsood Bibi sustained bullet injuries and later died.

The relevant SHO claimed that the suspects had also sustained bullet wounds but they somehow managed to escape.
