‘Militant’ held in Mianwali

Published March 26, 2008

MIANWALI, March 25: The district police claimed on Tuesday having apprehended a suspected would-be suicide bomber near Dara Tang (Isakhel tehsil), about 80 kilometres from here.

A diary containing vital information, 20 CDs and material related to bomb had been recovered from the suspect, the police said.

A police team stopped a passenger van at Dara Tang check post for usual checking and rounded up a suspect, who was later identified as Ahmad. The police recovered from him a diary, CDs and other material.

The diary, according to the police, contained information about Taliban activities and other informative material like addresses of Talibans and the CDs had footages of some successful operations conducted by the militants.

Dara Tang check post is the entry point from the NWFP, some 80km from Mianwali city. The Isakhel DSP, however, expressed ignorance about the arrest, saying he was out of the district and had just returned.

Sources told Dawn that the suspect had confessed his association with the Taliban, adding that investigation is in progress. The officiating DPO was not available at the headquarters for a comment.
