VEHARI, March 22: Body of a three-year-old boy was recovered from a tin box here in the Tibba Sultanpur area on Saturday.

Awais’ aunt Nasreen allegedly suffocated him to death about a week ago by putting him in a box over a family enmity. Awais’ body was unearthed when Nasreen’s guests informed police about the foul smell arising from her house situated in Basti Lal Sagoo. During a search, police found Awais’ body, arrested Nasreen and registered a case against her. Later, she ‘confessed’ to have committed the crime.

Police sent Awais’ body to Tibba Sultanpur Rural Health Centre for an autopsy. A doctor of the rural health center said Awais died from suffocation.

DEMO: Dozens of people from Machiwal staged a demonstration here on Saturday against a policeman who allegedly beat up a labourer. Assistant Sub-Inspector Zafar went to Liaquat Ali’s tyre shop and asked him to mend his motorcycle’s punctured tube. Ali patched up the tube and demanded puncture charges from Zafar. On this, Zafar allegedly took Ali to Machiwal Police Station, beat him up him and later let him go. The protesting people demanded that the police authorities order a case against Zafar and take action against him. They marched through the district courts and Kutchery and later dispersed peacefully.
