GUJRANWALA, March 17: On the orders of the district and sessions judge, the police on Monday registered a case against seven officials, including an SHO and investigation officer, for keeping a man in illegal confinement and torturing him during interrogation at lockup.

Reports said Dhulley police picked up Zulfikar Butt from his car showroom near Lorry Adda at the behest of his rivals and detained him at police station where he was tortured by investigating officer. The police registered a car theft case against him.

His heirs moved the district and sessions court which ordered his examination by a DHQ medical board. The medical board confirmed in its report that he was tortured. The court ordered registration of a case against the police officials. Those who were booked are: SHO inspector Fazal Ahmad, investigating officer Khuram, constables Sohail, Sajid, Amjad, Abas, Munir.

DOUBLE SHAH CASE: The local anti-terrorism court No.2 on Monday accepted the adjournment plea filed by Sibtul Hassan alias Double Shah and fixed March 26 for further hearing.

Wazirabad police produced him in the court along with his accomplices Ibrar Shah, Imtiaz Shah and Liaquat Ali. Main accused Double Shah submitted that he had changed his counsel and inducted Shahid Muzaffar Khan Advocate and sought adjournment. The court accepted his plea and adjourned the case till March 26.

Later, Double Shah told newsmen that since his arrest no passport or tickets were recovered from his possession which showed that he did not want to escape from the country. “The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is selling my property worth millions of rupees at throw-away prices and did not return his expensive vehicle,” he said.

He said NAB had closed his CNG stations, causing him heavy financial loss. He denied that he wanted to contest election against PML-Q leader Hamid Nasir Chattha.

ACCIDENT: Two people were killed while five others injured in a collision between two motorcycles on Pasrur Road on Monday.

Four youths Zabihullah, Tanvir, Qaiser and Afzal of Nathoki village were on their way by a motorcycle. Near Jandiala, their bike collided with another two-wheeler on which Ziaullah and two women Nasim and Muzamal were riding. Tanvir died on the spot while Zabihullah succumbed to his injuries at DHQ hospital. Five others were rushed to DHQ hospital in a critical condition.
