US troops escape rocket attack

ISLAMABAD, April 14: Unidentified attackers fired three rockets into Khost Airport in eastern Afghanistan early on Sunday, but failed to hit the US troops stationed there, news reports said.

Residents of the Khost town reported intense activity of US force in the area after the pre-dawn attack, Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) agency said.

Khost is the capital of a province of the same name which borders Pakistan. It was frequently attacked during the US-led operations against the remnants of the Taliban and al-Qaeda movements in the Khost-Paktia-Paktika region in February.

AIP, quoting Khost Governor Mohammad Ibrahim, said the rockets fired on Sunday fell in the vicinity of the airport.

“It (the attack) may be linked to internal feuds among the Afghans, but possibility of the Taliban and al-Qaeda involvement cannot be ruled out,” he told the private news agency.—dpa

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
