SHEIKHUPURA, April 12: Three Rangers were killed and as many sustained serious injuries on Friday as a train hit a van near Jay Singh, Narang Mandi, some 76 kilometres from here.

The Narowal-bound train coming from Lahore hit the van when its driver hurriedly tried to speed away the unmanned level crossing. Driver Lance Nike Kafayat, Nike Ahmed Sher and another official, unidentified so far, died instantly while Hawaldar Zawar Hussain, Lance Nike Rehmat and Nike Allah Ditta received serious injuries. They were rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Narang Mandi police are investigation.

Meanwhile, two persons lost their lives and three others were injured in three traffic mishaps in and around the city here on Friday.

Khalid Hussain was crossing the Faisalabad Road near Bhekhu when a speeding bus (FDY-3437) crushed him to death.

The second accident took place on the Jandiala Road where an unidentified man was run over by a rashly-driven tractor-trolley.

A speeding wagon knocked down and injured seriously three passersby Jamal, Imran and Aslam. They suffered serious injuries and were admitted to a nearby hospital.

Police are going into the matter.
