ISLAMABAD, Jan 17: The Pakistan Muslim League-N has urged political parties not to oppose its proposal for a national government and a new schedule for the February 18 polls as it may be the only way to end the crisis the country is facing.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, PML-N vice-president Syed Zafar Ali Shah blamed ‘the country’s worst political, judicial and economic crises’ on the policies of rulers and said that only a free, fair and transparent election under a neutral government of national consensus could save Pakistan from becoming a failed state.

Mr Shah said that under the Constitution, the government could not change the polling date and was required to reschedule the whole election process.

He said that since the government had already failed in conducting elections within 60 days of the dissolution of assembly, it should now announce a fresh election schedule. He reiterated the demand that judiciary should be restored to its pre-November 3 position.
