Three suffocate in mine

QUETTA, Jan 9: Three workers were suffocated when poisonous gas accumulated in a mine about 140km off here on Wednesday.

Five men were working in the mine in Muslim Bagh area. When their colleagues outside received no signal from the mine they informed the officials concerned.

Rescue teams rushed to the area and they found three workers dead and two unconscious.

Sources said the workers were doing their job deep inside the mine when the incident took place.

The deceased have been identified as Taslim, Umar Paz and Mohammad Munir.

Chief inspector of mines Malik Abdul Aziz told Dawn that the mine had been closed and an inquiry ordered.—By Saleem Shahid
