Woman dies in Indian shelling

MUZAFFARABAD, April 3: A woman was killed on Wednesday in the Poonch district when Indian troops heavily shelled the area from across the Line of Control (LoC), officials said.

The Indian forces, superintendent of police, Raja Ghulam Sarwar, told Dawn, started shelling with machine-guns and mortars at about 6:15pm on Wednesday targeting Hajira sector villages.

Azmat Bibi, 40, wife of Lal Mohammad, died in Bal Bazaar, Mandhol village, after being hit by shrapnel of a mortar shell, the SP said.

In Muzaffarabad, he said, two trucks were targeted by the Indian troops on Neelum Valley Road near Seemari village, some 60km northeast of here. However, no losses were reported.

The authorities on Wednesday allowed the vehicles to move on the road which had been closed for traffic on Tuesday after the Indian troops hit a jeep near the same place.
