MARDAN, Dec 2: Police have got freed a child and arrested the ringleader involved in the kidnapping.

Police on Sunday said that Suhail, son of Ajab Noor, went out of his house for a bicycle ride on Nov 26 and never returned. The family came to know that the child had been kidnapped when they received a phone call from the culprits demanding Rs5 million as ransom.

The matter was reported to police who took immediate action and tracked down the kidnappers from the mobile number they used to make the ransom demand. One of the kidnappers turned out to be the family’s neighbour, Shakirin.

It transpired that the kidnappers and victims both were residents of Baghdada Mardan.

Police said Shakirin had disclosed the names of his gang members, the names of which would be kept secret until they were located. The kidnappers set the child free at a CNG station on Nowshehra-Mardan road, who was then taken into the protective custody by police.

Meanwhile, Union Council Baghdada Nazim Hamayun Khilji announced a cash reward of Rs50,000 for the City SHO Shoukat Khan. The district government also announced Rs10,000 for the police party concerned.
