LAHORE, March 28: Stage and film actress Nargis was beaten black and blue allegedly by dismissed police inspector Abid Boxer on Wednesday night.

The former inspector, known for killing many alleged criminals in several fake police encounters during Shahbaz Sharif’s reign in the Punjab, reportedly tortured Nargis for several hours. He allegedly cut her hair with a knife and shaved of her eye-brows.

“I have 39 wounds on my body,” Nargis told Dawn while showing her bruised arm.

She alleged that Abid Boxer held her family hostage for several hours and demanded Rs10 million and documents of her property which she refused.

According to Nargis, Abid, along with three accomplices stormed into her Johar Town house at around 7:30pm on Wednesday. They held her sister Didar, sister-in-law Neelam, two nephews, a maid, cook and security guard hostage at gunpoint.

She said he beat her up with a wiper and shaved off her eye-brows and head when she refused to accept his demands.

He left her house at around half past midnight and asked her to make up her mind till his return. She said one of his accomplices, later identified as Ramzan alias Mocha, stood guard on them.

Nargis said Abid returned at 2am and started battering her again. He continued torturing her till 4:30am. He left her house threatening with dire consequences. Ramzan, however, stay-ed there and held them hostage.

She said her father Idrees Bhatti called police who arrested Ramzan.

Nargis said Abid had been threatening her and her family for the last four years for her refusal to develop relations with him.

Idress alleged that Abid was also involved in the dacoity at Didar’s house on Nov 26. He did not nominate Abid in the FIR because of fear.

Police have registered a case against Abid Boxer and others on the complaint of Nargis.

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
