KARACHI, Nov 4: A heavy contingent of police was deployed outside the house of Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed late on Sunday night in the wake of his resolve to attend his office of the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court on Monday.

HRCP office-bearer Uzma Noorani, who visited the house of Justice Ahmed, told Dawn that an ‘extra-ordinary’ police deployment had been made outside the judge’s house on the Khayaban-e-Mujahid in Defence Housing Authority.

Some police officials entered the house and told Justice Ahmed that the deployment was for his security and that he and his family were free to move.

“However, if we received orders in the morning we will be constrained to follow them,” Mr Noorani quoted the police officials as saying.

Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed, according to Ms Noorani, responded that he had received orders from the Supreme Court requesting him to report to work in the morning.

“As far as we know, after the Supreme Court verdict which has already denounced the PCO, he is still the chief justice of the SHC,” Barrister Salahuddin Ahmed, son of Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed, told Dawn.

When asked about his father’s plan to attend the office on Monday, Barrister Ahmed said that the situation was unclear and he could, therefore, not comment on it.

No senior police official or government functionary was available for their version over the police deployment.
