HYDERABAD, Oct 12: Following a warning given by the Chief Justice of Pakistan that he would summon heads of intelligence agencies if the missing persons are not released, Sindh police on Friday produced two missing nationalists in the anti-terrorism court here on Friday.

Acting judge of the ATC Abdul Rasool Memon remanded Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz activists Chetan Bajer and G. M. Bhagat to judicial custody and asked police to produce them in the court on October 24.

Reports said that JSQM secretary-general Dr Safdar Sarki, who has US nationality, was declared as having been arrested on Thursday from Sakran area of Balochistan and produced in the ATC in Hub on Friday.

Bhagat and Bajer, who had ‘disappeared’ from Umerkot in September and July 2006, were arrested from Umerkot on Thursday.

However, sources told Dawn that Bhagat and Bajer had been brought from Karachi to Mirpurkhas where they were asked to board a coach. When the coach was near Umerkot, police stopped it, ‘officially arrested’ them and took them to the Umerkot police station. Later, a Qasimabad police team reached Umerkot and took them to Hyderabad.

Bajer and Bhagat were wanted by the Qasimabad police in a case registered under sections of Explosive Substance Act and Anti-Terrorism Act. They had been declared absconders in the case.

PPI adds: Khemchand Bajer and Wasdev, brothers of the two, said after meeting them that they had been severely tortured.
