KARACHI, Oct 10: Pakistan is likely to end the 12th Special Olympics World Summer Games much below par in terms of medals as compared to what they achieved at Dublin (Ireland) four years back as the curtain falls on the spectacular event in the port city of Shanghai on Thursday.

The Pakistan sportspersons could muster one gold, three silver and as many bronze on the penultimate day for an overall tally of 38 (11-15-12), according to results available here on Wednesday.

Pakistan returned with a haul of 89 medals in Dublin – 43-32-14 – four years back.

This time the athletes are competing in nine disciplines and though they could not match the previous figures, it is highly commendable on their part to have fetched medals in all but one discipline. They settled for seventh place in soccer, losing by a solitary goal to Isle of Man.

Swimmer Bilal Khan continued his excellent run when he clinched second individual gold in 25m free style. He had won 25m back stroke gold in addition to helping his team win another gold in 4 x 25m relay the other day.

Jasmin Mehmood Sharif did the country proud by capturing the first gold in 50m free style on the second day of the games.

Pakistan ended the bocce event on high note securing three gold medals and as many silver in their debut. They rounded off the competition by earning a silver medal in team event.

In table tennis, Pakistan managed to earn two silver and a bronze on Wednesday after capturing the mixed doubles gold through Faisal Mahmood and Zehra Abbasi the other day.

In athletics, Sumaira Shafqat won silver in girls 200m while Shahid Hussain secured bronze in boys 200m sprint. In badminton, Zubi won her second bronze medal of the games in girls’ singles. She had won the other bronze in girls’ doubles with Shehla Naz.
