BUNER, Aug 26: Three music centres were blown up in Swari bazaar on Saturday night.

The improvised explosive devices exploded at intervals between 10.30pm and 11.00pm which created panic in the area.

The targeted centres included Mian Yousaf Music Centre, Malik Cassette House and Ismail Music Centre. The blasts partially damaged dozens of nearby shops.

A heavy contingent of police and bomb disposal squad rushed to the place and collected evidence from the site.

A police official said that all bombs were locally made and were possibly carried timers.

A few months back, a video and photography centre in Daggar, video and CD centres in Swari and Cheena were set ablaze at midnight.

A shopping centre in Pacha Kalay Pir Baba was attacked and warnings were given to wind up their businesses which, according to the attackers, were spreading vulgarity and obscenity among locals.

Shopping centres were also warned against entertaining female customers.

Meanwhile, activists of the Awami National Party, Pakistan Awami Party (PAP) and a local transport union staged a demonstration here on Sunday to protest against the blasts.

The protesters blocked the main road leading towards the adjoining Swat and Mardan districts and set a deadline of September 8 for the arrest of the miscreants.

They were led by PAP chief Fanoos Gujor, ANP district general-secretary Mian Syed Laiq Bacha and president of transport union Qaisar Wali Khan.

They blamed the provincial government of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for the destabilisation of Malakand region and alleged that it was being done to make way for foreign intervention.
