KARACHI: Dead fish mystery solved

Published August 1, 2007

KARACHI, July 31: The mystery of thousands of dead fish at the beach was solved on Tuesday when Sindh Fisheries Department announced that they were caught and thrown back in the sea by fishing trawlers.

“The dead fish included four species – Dandia, Mori, Bankra and Loer – which are neither consumed by human beings nor could be used for making feed for animals,” Sindh Fisheries Director Anwar-ul-Islam said.

He said the fisheries department had set up an investigation team comprising Haroon Ali Rizvi and Muhammad Saleem Akhtar Khan, who collected the samples of the dead fish and carried out a laboratory test. After the findings, they reported that the dead fish were thrown at Manora and Keamari channels which washed ashore on July 27 and 28.—PPI
