Fraud case against four PHED men

SAHIWAL, March 8: The Anti-Corruption Establishment on Friday registered a case against Public Health Engineering Department executive engineer Raja Nasrullah Khan, SDO Irshad Ahmad, overseer Abdul Jabbar and contractor Muhammad Zafar on the charge of embezzling Rs2.5 million.

The accused, during the Nawaz Sharif era in 1997, embezzled the amount while working on a water supply scheme in Chak 108/7-B by using substandard material.

CONVICTED: Sahiwal additional district and session judge convicted four people in a murder case on Friday.

The judge sentenced Muhammad Riaz to death, his brothers Latif and Ashiq life term and Rs50,000 fine each, and fourth accomplice Abdul Ghani five-year rigorous imprisonment and Rs5,000 fine.

According to prosecution, the convicts axed to death one of their tenants Abdul Hamid and injured his brother in Chak 67/5-L on July 20, 1997.

MASSACRE CONDEMNED: A Jamaat-i-Islmai rally on Friday condemned massacre of Muslims in India.

The rally participants demanded that the world should declare India a terrorist state. They termed the killings a conspiracy hatched by the Indian premier and home minister in collaboration with Israel.

They urged the government to raise the issue at the United Nations. They also asked Muslim countries to boycott India.
