BANNU, June 21: One person was killed and 21 others were injured in a grenade attack at a religious gathering here on Thursday night, police said.

Police said the attacker lobbed the grenade at a Tablighee ijtema opposite the Bannu airport at around 10.55pm. A large number of people gathered for Shab-i-Juma (Friday night) congregation. The injured were taken to a local hospital, the police said.

People present at the gathering nabbed the attacker, but he was not handed over to police. “He is still with the Tablighees. But we are trying to secure his custody. We don’t know about the identity of the attacker,” a police officer said.—Bureau
