KARACHI, June 20: A jittery class XI student travelling in a minibus to his examination centre on Wednesday landed in a police lockup following a quarrel with a traffic police official who had stopped the vehicle for violating traffic rules.

The traffic policeman stopped the minibus on Sharea Faisal near the Karsaz bus stop and asked the driver to show his documents so that he could be booked for committing a traffic offence. When the driver told the police that he did not have any papers, ‘negotiations’ began between the police officials and the driver.

When the process prolonged, the passengers started agitating. A first year (commerce) student, Zulfiqar, was in a hurry to reach his centre and take his English examination. He got off the minibus and started arguing with traffic police ASI Ghulam Haider, asking him to expedite the ‘negotiations’ as he was getting late.

“We have come to know that Ghulam Haider abused Zulfiqar, who got provoked and a violent fight ensued. The ASI had his nose bone broken in the fistfight,” the SSP Investigation Zone-II, Niaz Khoso, told Dawn.

An FIR (332/07) was registered by the operation wing of the Sharea Faisal police station against Zulfiqar on the complaint of ASI Ghulam Haider and Zulfiqar was put into the police lockup.

The police would review his case, and if law permitted, he would be released soon on bail so that he could take his remaining tests, the SSP Investigation said.

WOMAN KILLED: A man shot dead his sister in his Pirabad home on Wednesday.

Police said Aisha, 22, got a divorce paper by mail from her husband, who was abroad. She disclosed the bad news to her family on which her brothers blamed her for the divorce. This led to an exchange of hot words between them and her brother, Syed Habib, shot dead his sister.
