KARACHI, April 16: The Sindh government is preparing a long-term development plan – Sindh Vision-2030 – envisaging coordinated efforts towards pooling resources for efficient development.

The provincial cabinet, which is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, is likely to review the outline of the plan so that necessary adjustments could be made before it is finalised, it is reliably learnt.

The Sindh Vision-2030 document would enable the government to chalk out a plan and move towards the ultimate goal of prosperity and development, Additional Chief Secretary Planning & Development Ghulam Serwar Khero stated on Monday.

The P&D department in this regard has already held five consultative workshops in Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Nawabshah and Sukkur where participants discussed different aspects of the plan highlighting concerns of the government. These concerns included the excessive expenditure by the provincial government on immigrants from other provinces.

Issues relating to poverty alleviation, marginalised communities and access to opportunities were also discussed at length.

The issues concerning law and order that were attributable to the heavy influx of people into Sindh and the negative impacts of compartmentalised planning by different district governments were also highlighted at the workshops.

The participants, including stakeholders, government functionaries, occupational groups, representatives from various chambers of commerce and agriculture and NGOs, put forward their suggestions at the workshops, according to sources.
