RAWALPINDI, April 14: President Pervez Musharraf will preside over a four-day Formation Commanders conference commencing from April 16 at the General Headquarters.

During the first two days, the meeting will discuss issues relating to internal and external security, in addition to professional and policy matters. It will be attended by corps commanders, principal staff officers and formation commanders.

Sources said the commanders would review the security situation along the Pakistan-Afghan border and in tribal areas. Security at the Line of Control and possible future direction of Pakistan-India relations, with special focus on the Kashmir issue will also be discussed.

During the last two days of the conference, the Army Promotion Board will take up promotion cases of senior army officers. Some 100 lieutenant-colonels would be promoted to the rank of colonel and 40 colonels to the rank of brigadiers, the sources said.

Meanwhile, according to a press release issued by the ISPR here on Saturday, Lt-Gen Hamid Rab Nawaz, Corps Commander Quetta, had been posted as Inspector-General, Training and Evaluation (IGT&E), Pakistan Army at the General Headquarters, whereas Lt-Gen Mohammad Masood Aslam, IGT&E, had been posted as Corps Commander Peshawar.

Corps Commander Peshawar, Lt-Gen Mohammad Hamid Khan has been posted as President of the National Defence University, while his predecessor Lt- Gen Raza Mohammad Khan has been posted as Corps Commander Bahawalpur.

Lt-Gen Khalid Shameem Wynne, Deputy Chief of General Staff at the General Headquarters, has been posted as Corps Commander Quetta.

Informed sources also confirmed that General Officer Commanding, Quetta, Maj-Gen Haroon had been posted as DG Rangers, Lahore, in place of Maj-Gen Hussain Mehdi, while Maj-Gen Jamil Haider had been appointed as Deputy Chief of General Staff in place of Lt-Gen Khalid Shameem Wynne.

General Officer Commanding Maj-Gen Rashid has been transferred to the ISI Headquarters, Islamabad.

Deputy military-secretary in MS Branch GHQ Brig Mohammad Khalid has been promoted to Maj-Gen and posted as GOC 17 Division, Kharian.Director military operations GHQ Brig Kaleem Sabir Taseer has been promoted to Maj-Gen and posted at the Commandant School of Artillery, Naushehra. Brig Mohammad Mansha of the recently-upgraded National Defence University, Islamabad, has been promoted to the rank of Maj-Gen and posted as Director-General Logistics GHQ.

Brig Ghulam Dastgir of the National Defence University, Islamabad, has been promoted to Maj-Gen and posted as chief instructor at the War College National Defence University, Islamabad. Brig Javed Iqbal has been promoted to Maj-Gen and posted as GOC Karachi.

Brig Ziauddin Najam of the Army Strategic Force Command has been promoted to Maj-Gen and posted as GOC strategic force, chief of staff southern Sargodha Mangla Corps.

Brig Tahir Habib Siddiqui has been promoted to Maj-Gen and posted as GOC armored division, Kharian.

Vice-Commander Logistic Secretariat Maj-Gen Waqar Ahmed Kangarwi has been posted as GOC Army Aviation Command, Rawalpindi. GOC Strategic Force Maj-Gen Iftikhar Chaudhry has been posted as DG Welfare GHQ. GOC 41 Division, Quetta, Maj-Gen Mohammad Farooque has been posted as DG Defence Export Promotion Organisation (DEPO). DG military land and revenue Maj-Gen Ulfat Hussain has been posted as vice-commander logistic secretariat, Commandant School of Artillery. Maj-Gen Athar Hussain Shah has been posted as GOC 12 Artillery Division, Gujranwala.

GOC Kohat Maj-Gen Gul Mohammad has been posted as DG personnel and admin GHQ, Commandant Military College of Engineering, Risalpur. Maj-Gen Tariq Mehmood has been posted as DG ISI. GOC 6 Armored Division Kharian Maj-Gen Athar Abbas has been posted as DG Quartering and Lands.
