KARACHI, March 24: Two suspected robbers, who were on the run after killing a man, were killed in a shootout with police in Lyari on Saturday.

Baghdadi police said two dacoits on a motorcycle tried to rob a pedestrian and opened fire at the victim as he struggled with them on Shah Waliullah Road.

They said a police party, headed by Sub-Inspector Ghulam Hussain, heard the shooting and reached the spot where the victim was lying in a pool of blood.

The police chased the dacoits who opened fire on the police also. They said the police party returned the fire and hit the two dacoits.

The bodies of the dead were shifted to the Civil Hospital where the robbers’ victim was identified as Mohammed Ashraf, 35, a worker at a denting and paining workshop, living in Chakiwara.

SHO of Baghdadi Inspector Nasir Lodhi said the dacoits were brothers and residents of Miran Naka, Chakiwara. He said the aunt of the robber brothers identified them as Rehman and Raheem, sons of Amanullah. They hailed from the NWFP.

Lyari Town Police Officer Pir Fareed Jan announced a cash reward of Rs10,000 for the police party and he also recommended to the high-ups for promotion of head constable Fayyaz Ahmed Khan and constables Altaf and Shakeel.

The SHO said both brothers were heroin addicts. He said Rehman had been arrested earlier in different cases in Vinder and Hub.

BODY FOUND: The bullet-riddled body of an unidentified man was found at a desolate place in Manghopir. It was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where sources said the victim, who was in his mid-30s, received eight bullets.

The police said the body was found at Qazi Goth. They said the man was wearing white shalwar-qameez and he looked like a labourer from upcountry. They said the body was kept at the Edhi morgue at Sohrab Goth for identification.
