RAWALPINDI, Feb 19: Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) vice- chancellor Usman Ali Isani has said that the devolution of power will help improve the standard of education in schools.

He was talking to Dawn after attending the Proctorial Board oath-taking ceremony at the Post-Graduate College for Women in Satellite Town.

In the new system, parents of schoolchildren and other communities’ representatives will have the chance to closely monitor the activities of schoolteachers, Mr Isani said and added, that would help improve the standard of education.

He stressed the need for a higher budgetary allocation for the education sector to ensure proper salaries and facilities for teachers.

Earlier, speaking to students, Mr Isani called for bringing the local standard of education at pars with the international. The world, he observed, had become a global village, which, he maintained, necessitated a high standard in every field of life to survive in the competition with other countries.

The countries which are poor in physical resources, can make a place for themselves in the comity of nations by providing quality education to the people, he added. He stressed the need for acquisition of scientific and technological education, which, he added, could put us on the path to progress.

The QAU’s VC regretted that just 2.6 per cent of the country’s youth population was enrolled in institutes of higher learning.

Speaking on the occasion, college principal Khalida Samar urged the students to stay focused in their studies and also participate in extra-curricular activities.

The principal hoped that the new proctors of the college would discharge their responsibilities dedicatedly.
